Five Tips for A Successful Dentist Visit

Does going to the dentist make you nervous? Are you the type of person to skip out on cleanings because you hate going to the office? We have tips for you to have a successful dentist visit without all the nerves. Follow this guide and you’ll want to go to the dentist every day! Well, maybe not every day, but you won’t dread your scheduled cleanings anymore.

Tip #1: Brush and floss before your appointment

Even though you are going to get your teeth cleaned, it still helps to polish them up before hand. Your dentist doesn’t want to be reaching into a dirty mouth either. By brushing and flossing before your visit, it gives your dentist less work to do while cleaning your teeth. You will be able to get out faster and also help your dentist at the same time. Practicing good oral hygiene shows your dentist that you care about your teeth.

Tip #2: Get to the office 15 minutes early

If this is your first time in a new office, or you need to update information, this step is especially important. Getting to the office earlier will give you time to fill out paperwork. This also helps the staff when getting ready for your appointment. If you’re late or in a rush, filling out forms can delay your appointment time. Make sure to set enough time for you to get there and do your paperwork.

Tip #3: Take a couple deep breaths in the office chair

If you’re nervous about your appointment, don’t worry. You’re not the first person. The couple minutes between getting into a room and seeing your dentist can be nerve-wracking for some people. During that time, try taking some deep breaths and listen to the office music. Calm your mind and prepare for how your appointment will go. Think about what you’re getting done at the office that day. You aren’t the first person to receive that procedure and your dentist has probably done it many times.

Tip #4: Communicate with your dentist

Odds are, your dentist is used to a nervous patient. When your dentist enters the room, let them know your thoughts. Explain that you are a little nervous for the visit and they will try to make it as comfortable for you as possible. Your dentist will understand the nerves that come with a visit and they are willing to help you through. You have to communicate with them in order to ensure your visit goes smoothly.

Tip #5: Write down the next appointment

This tip may seem simple, but you would be surprised at how many people forget this step. When you’re making your next appointment, make sure to write it down somewhere. Forgetting an appointment isn’t fun for anyone involved. You will even have to pay a cancellation fee at some offices. To ensure that this doesn’t happen, just write down the date and time of your next visit. Write it on paper, in your phone notes, or even on your hand. As long as you remember to put it on your calendar, you’ll be ready for your next appointment for sure.
